TV Show Collection

Saturday, October 10, 2009 8:34 pm

I would love to see all the seasons of Cold Case in the TV show collection.

Thank you for the suggestion. We don’t really have a TV show collection. We buy television series as requested by faculty and last year were able to buy some at the end of the year with money donated by Student Government.

Suggested Movie: Lakeview terrace, directed by Neil LaBute. With Samuel L. Jackson, Patrick Wilson, Kerry Washington

Thank you for your suggestion. I will forward it to the person who selects our media collection.

Library brochures

Saturday, April 25, 2009 1:46 pm

Hello, I am from Hunter Library at Western Carolina University, and we are gathering samples to get ideas for redoing our library brochures. Do you produce any type of printed brochures or handouts about your libraries? If so, would you be willing to mail a sample copy to us? We also want to collect samples of maps (or floor plans) that you may print up to help patrons find their way to various collections, if you would be willing to mail that also. Thank you for you help and assistance! It is greatly appreciated! You can send the information to: Christy McCarley Hunter Library 176 Central Drive Western Carolina Univeristy Cullowhee, NC 28723

Sure, we’ll be happy to.

Searching for DVDs

Thursday, September 11, 2008 12:35 pm

Please update the media search page for DVDs with more options to narrow searches more effectively.

Thank you for your suggestion. We realize our current system is not all that functional for media. We have been testing an enhancement to our public catalog with the ability to limit by topic/headings, language, publication date, and possibly format. This will significantly extend the search/browse functionality in our current system. Look for an announcement on these new features soon!

Book Suggestions

Thursday, September 11, 2008 12:24 pm

There are several books which I think the library should consider purchasing. The Post Secret book series compiled by Frank Warren famous for ‘Post Secret’ would be fun to have on the shelves, as would the book titles The Art of looking Sideways by Alan Fletcher, an interesting art book I just learned about through my art class.

Thank you for your suggestions. We will pass them along to the staff who order books in this area.

ARTSTOR

Monday, February 18, 2008 10:41 pm

New database suggestion: ARTSTOR (http://www.artstor.org/); as an art major, it is often very difficult to find images of particular works of art or architecture. Databases like Grove Online just do not cut it beyond general reference use, especially for foreign artists and architects. Anyway, just a thought, I completely understand there are budget restrictions and such. Thank you!!!

Thank you for your suggestions! In our collaboration with the Art Department, they have advised that ARTSTOR would not be the best purchase for us to make so we have not pursued it seriously.

However, librarian Kaeley McMahan gives these additional tips and you may contact her for additional info:

The Visual Arts Library in the Art Department is a place to locate images. Martine Sherrill may have the image already, or readily know where to locate it. Also, beyond the encyclopedia-related images in Grove Art, there are two other image databases available inside of the Grove Art database: Art Resource (90,000+ images) and Bridgeman Art Library (100,000+ images). Also, in the art databases section, we have access to CAMIO, which is another art images database that contains museum images.

Hope this helps!

New science journals

Friday, August 31, 2007 4:18 pm

I would like to suggest that the library subscribe to Nature Materials and Nature Nanotechnology. Both of these journals contain articles that may be interesting to all science departments and could inspire collaborations between various departments.

Thank you for your suggestion for new science journals. I will refer your message to our science librarian. Money for new journals is always tight, but we’ll take it into consideration.
