A Room with a [Quad] View
I have one of the best views on campus. I can look out my office window and see the Quad - students walking to class, going to Subway to get a quick lunch, the remnants of toilet paper blowing in the trees after a big win.
I work in the Alumni Office, located on the 2nd floor of Reynolda on the wing closest to Kitchin Dorm. [Alumni, please come and see us when you are on campus. We *love* to have visitors. We can tempt you with bumper stickers and brochures. You can update your email address here, find out about campus events. Look through the last 50 issues of The Howler].
Today the mood on campus is a little somber. We had a tough loss in men’s basketball lastnight. The team played a very scrappy Maryland team and we kept it close most of the time, but could not quite get over the edge to win. Talk now is of ‘are we a bubble team or aren’t we?’ I will leave that speculation to the pundits.
Campus is also a little quiet because it is approaching midterms and lots of students are working on papers. I saw one Screamin Demon arrive at the basketball game lastnight in pajama pants. That should tell you something. Actually student attendance at the game lastnight was dishearteningly low, in my humble opinion. Alumni who sit near me asked where they all were. I personally think Coach Gaudio and our team deserve better - they need all the student seats filled for every game. But then again, I was privileged to be a student during the glory days of Randolph Childress and Tim Duncan and have been an employee now for 9 years, witnessing the best of Josh Howard and Chris Paul and others. My spouse and I still periodically pull out our DVD of the 1995 ACC tournament. We watch it when we get depressed. There is nothing so bad that watching Randolph Childress lay the hurt on UNC can’t cure.
That’s it for today. Enjoy the blog. More to come. Thanks and Go Deacs!
