I came to ALA a day early this year because Lyrasis held a Board meeting on Thursday afternoon. This was the first time we met our new Nelinet colleagues and we had a lively discussion on planning for the future!
I love Chicago. When you grow up in the Midwest, Chicago is your New York, London and Paris! And when you come from Detroit, it’s what a city can and should be. After a solo dinner near Printer’s Row, I went over to Grant Park and watched the Summer Dance Festival. Now that is civilized.

Did you see “Cloud Gate” at Millenium Park yet? (aka the big silver jelly bean) That is one of my favorite pieces of art! http://www.millenniumpark.org/artandarchitecture/cloud_gate.html

Lynn, I thought if you lived in Detroit, Toronto was the model for what a city can and should be (hehe), especially if you get there by train!
Last time at ALA in Chicago, I enjoyed strolling through Grant Park the day I arrived and running into a free outdoor L.L. Cool J concert. That was great.
OK, Toronto can be our Paris; Chicago will stay our New York City!
That leaves me wondering what your London is…
All kidding aside, I’d only been to Chicago once, and that was on the tail end of an exhausting trip, so I didn’t have much memory for it. Chicago was outstanding! I’m glad to have had the chance to go (even if the distances were less than ideal)!
My London is Stratford, Ontario. I long for it.
