Home Sweet Home (back in Los Pinos)
Friday, June 19, 2009 7:05 pm by malvea7Well, we finally made it back to Managua after our first week of adventures. I must say I am thrilled to be back at the hotel. I am currently laying on my bed using Internet for the first time since I have arrived (the longest I have ever gone without Internet), relaxing to the sweet sound of silence (no rat, cow, bird or other animal noises), and loving not having to swat my face 24/7 from flies and fleas.
So far, I have experienced many “firsts”, which I am sure everyone else can say. I know the others will soon be posting their blogs naming some of the interesting/ridiculous adventures we have had thus far, so I am going to keep this simple and list some of my first time experiences.
- Missing a flight
- Being semi lost in a Nicaraguan airport (only for 20 minutes)
- Travelling via boat to the beautiful Ometepe Island
- Sleeping in a bungalo with lizards, spiders, and other strange insects.
- Waking up to cows mooing at 6 am.
- Climbing a volcano to reach a beautiful waterfall.
- Eating rice and beans every day.
- Partying with the locals of Ometepe at a Quinceanera!
- Eating “mamones”
- Eating “pupusas”
- Drinking chocolate milk out of a plastic bag.
- Getting spit on with Jessie by a young boy.
- Chatting with natives in their own homes.
- Riding in the bag of a huge metal truck with about 40 people in the back during the middle of a violent thunder storm and literally almost getting struck by lightening.
Until next time, Emilee!
P.S. Hello parents, I haven’t spoken to you since I got here but I am safe (ignore #14)and will be calling you soon!
