Zotero is a bibliographic management system, which means you can use it to keep track of different resources as you do research or write. Once you’re ready to work on your paper you can use it to generate parenthetical citation and a bibliography. Zotero 1.5 will let you sync your library across multiple computers as well as to create a profile on the Zotero site. This lets you have “friends” and share your library with others. Good stuff.
Who doesn’t have a million little tasks to keep up with? We all have our own methods. Some people have formal To Do lists. Others have post-it notes all over there desk. Some people manage it all online.
If you’re looking for a way to streamline your tasks in the new year using your Thinkpad or other computer of choice, Remember The Milk might just be for you. Remember the Milk allows you to classify tasks in a number of ways: by list, tag, due date, or location. You can create “smart lists” based on any of this data. For example, you can have a “smart list” of things due by tomorrow in the office, or class-related tasks to be done on the computer. You can even share lists with others, so a group collaborating on a project can all have access to, add, and complete shared tasks.
Firefox extensions will come up regularly, so I wanted to make sure to include information about Firefox for some background. Firefox is The recommended browser at Wake Forest, and offers a lot of additional features than just what is on your browser when you first open it. You can customize it (very easily, I promise!) using themes, extensions, and other fancy toys. To understand why this is helpful for you, please take a look at this presentation:
This blog is written for the WFU community. Hopefully, whether you’re affliated with the library, if you’re faculty, staff, or student, you will find something useful in this weekly blog. I’ll share something every week. Sometimes it’ll be bleeding edge, other times it will be something that’s been around for a while but might be new to some of you. Is there anything you’d like to see covered? Leave a note in the comments and I’ll do my best to cover it!
