Anglophiles rejoice! The library has added several primary source databases for the study of Britain and its colonies. We also added additional resources on the U.S. Congress.
New and Expanded Resources
- British Periodicals - Searchable full text of hundreds of British periodicals from the late 17th century to the early 20th century. The individual titles are listed on the journals page.
- House of Commons Parliamentary Papers - Includes House of Commons sessional papers from 1715 to the present, with supplementary material back to 1688.
- Times Digital Archive - A full-image archive of this pre-eminent London newspaper from its first issue in 1785 to December 1985.
- Shakespeare Collection - Includes criticism, the Arden full-text annotated editions, journal articles, prompt books and other reference material.
- LexisNexis Congressional has been expanded with the purchase of the Congressional Record Permanent Collection. Upon completion, the full text of the Congressional Record and its predecessors will be available from 1789-present. Currently 1974-present is available with new content added monthly. - Our CQ Electronic Library subscription has been expanded with the purchase of CQ Global Researcher.
- IBIS World - Provides extensive reports on 300 industries and numerous companies. Includes size, trends, market share, descriptions of key participants and more. This database, which is provided by the Professional Center Library, will replace the Net Advantage database.
- Global Road Warrior - Information about countries, with emphasis on information necessary for international business travel and world trade.
- The OneSource Global module has been added to our Reference USA subscription. In addition to U.S. companies, our subscription now covers over 17 million companies worldwide.
- Career Library - Resources to choose the right career and apply for jobs. Includes self-assessment quizzes and résumé help. Provided by the NC LIVE consortium.
- Auto Repair Reference Center - Specs and instructions for car repair for models 1945-present. Provided by the NC LIVE consortium.
- SimplyMap - Map thousands of demographic, business and marketing data variables. Coverage is limited to the United States. Provided by the NC LIVE consortium.
- Literary Reference Center - Contains author biographies, literary criticism, journal articles and book reviews. Provided by the NC LIVE consortium.

Journal Citation Reports: Social Science Edition
The ZSR Library has upgraded WFU’s subscription to Journal Citation Reports (JCR) to include over 1700 Social Science journals. With JCR, researchers can track citation trends such as the cited half-life of journal articles and can compare impact factors of journals in the same discipline.

Faculty members have made it clear that having the full text of primary source material available digitally is one of the most valuable services the library can provide. Thus, ZSR has made it a high priority to acquire these materials using funds from the Presidential Trust and in collaboration with other libraries. New resources include:
Featured Changes
- LexisNexis® Congressional Hearings Digital Collection - When completed in December, this database will give researchers access to the content of both published and unpublished hearings from 1829 to the present. Hearings contain the full transcripts of the proceedings, including all oral statements, committee questions, and discussion. They also contain texts of related reports, statistical analyses, correspondence, exhibits, and articles presented by witnesses or inserted into the record by committee members and staff. The Hearings Collection is incorporated into our LexisNexis Congressional database. Supported by the Presidential Trust for Faculty Excellence and the Professional Center Library.
- Nineteenth Century U.S. Newspapers - Nineteenth Century U.S. Newspapers provides access to approximately 1.7 million pages of primary source newspaper content from the 19th century, featuring full-text content and images from numerous newspapers from a range of urban and rural regions throughout the U.S. The collection encompasses the entire 19th century, with an emphasis on such topics as the American Civil War, African-American culture and history, Western migration and Antebellum-era life, among other subjects. - C19: The Nineteenth Century Index searches the following sources simultaneously: Poole’s Index to Periodical Literature, Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalogue, American Periodicals Series, Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals, House of Commons Parliamentary Papers, ArchivesUSA, and Palmer’s Index to the Times.
- Digital National Security Archive contains significant primary documents central to U.S. foreign and military policy since 1945. Contains declassified documents that have been gathered through extensive use of the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Gift of the Presidential Trust for Faculty Excellence.
- Early American Imprints, Series II. Shaw/Shoemaker is an electronic version of the Early American Imprints set. Includes the full text of 36,000 books, pamphlets, and broadsides published in the United States between 1801 and 1819. Periodical and newspaper articles are not included. Gift of the Presidential Trust for Faculty Excellence.
- Historical Statistics of the United States contains over 30,000 data series covering all aspects of American life. You can view tables in HTML or PDF and you can create your own custom charts.
- ProQuest Historical Newspapers contains three newspapers back to their first issues: New York Times (1851-three years ago), Chicago Tribune (1849-1985), and Wall Street Journal (1889-1989). More recent issues are available through other databases, such as ProQuest. Includes advertisements, illustrations, etc. as they were laid out on the original page. - Streaming Video! We have just added another exciting new database from Alexander Street Press to our collection at ZSR.The Theatre in Video database offers over 500 hours of streaming video for more than 250 plays and documentaries in their entirety, including the BBC Shakespeare Collection.Users can search by actor, production, company, theatre, or date, and can also create playlists of entire plays or just clips.One great aspect of this database is that it is easy to clip specific portions of a play and then use just that clip in class, or post it in Blackboard.
